Fatality Fire in Central-Alameda

Wednesday, October 25, 2023
LOS ANGELES-

Heavy fire raging in the back of a home in Central-Alameda left a 60-year-old male dead.

At 10:18AM on October 25, 2023 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the 1200 block of E 35th Street in Central-Alameda to reports of a structure fire.

The first arriving fire company found a one story, single family dwelling with heavy smoke showing from the back of the structure. Firefighters initiated an offensive operation with an interior fire attack and coordinated vertical ventilation by the truck company.

The fire, located in a small addition at the back of the home, extended up into the attic of the primary residence. Firefighters quickly got water on the blaze while also conducting a primary search for any occupants.  Sadly, they located a 60-year-old male beyond medical help.

30 firefighters, working under the leadership of (Acting) Battalion Chief Nicholas Pellegrini, fully extinguished the fire in 35 minutes.  There were no reported injuries to firefighters.

While the primary home had functioning smoke alarms, there were none found within the addition.

The Mayor’s Crisis Response Team and American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide support and assistance to the three displaced occupants.

LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS) is investigating the cause per protocol for a fatality fire.
