Mandeville Canyon Evacuation Drill
A rainy, cold morning did not stop the community of Mandeville Canyon from participating in a potential live-saving brush fire evacuation drill
On May 19, 2019 the Los Angeles Fire Department, along with all our partners in public safety, conducted a large-scale drill, simulating a fast-moving brush fire in the Mandeville Canyon. While the LAFD alerting system sent out emergency notifications as if it were a real incident, residents also recieved 'knocks on doors' from law enforcement officials telling them to evacuate. Some residents were able to drive out but one area was designated a 'walking evacuation' due to the narrow roads.
The event concluded with a public safety fair at the evacuation center, providing both information and resources, for all those invovled.
It is not possible to conduct this type of real-world training in all high risk brush zones across the City of Los Angeles. However, there are valuable online resources you can use to help you/your family ensure you have both proper brush clearance and are Ready, Set, Go!
