Flames quickly erupted in a one story commercial building filled with heavy fire load doing business as a large fabric wholesaler.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was notified at 6:43 PM on October 14, 2017 of a fire at French Fabric, Inc. located at 1621 S. Soto Street in Boyle Heights.  Firefighters quickly arrived to find fire both outside and inside the large commercial building and engaged in an intense battle before flames stretched through the roof and structural compromise forced defensive operations.  Nearby businesses were exposed to heavy heat and fire that crews were able to fight back and stop from continuing to spread.

Assistant Chief Antoine McKnight took command of 130 firefighters who extinguished the major emergency blaze in just over two hours with no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The incident is under active investigation and total dollar loss is still being tabulated.
