Westwood-

Los Angeles Firefighters quickly extinguished an apartment fire where tragically, a woman was found dead inside.

At 7:05 AM on September 21, 2015, the LAFD responded to a Structure Fire at 10954 Roebling Ave in Westwood. They arrived on scene to find a large U-shaped two-story apartment building with smoke showing. Upon further investigation, it was quickly determined that one first floor unit was on fire and flames were beginning to spread to a second story balcony. Additional companies were quickly requested due to the potential need.

Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the flames, performed a rapid search of the smoke filled apartment where they located an adult female who was sadly beyond medical help, and determined her dead.

Over 30 firefighters, under the command of Battalion Chief Alberto Abarca, extinguished the fire in just 15 minutes and confined the flames to the unit of origin.

The apartment was located in an area where many UCLA students reside and it was equipped with functional smoke alarms. There were no bars on the windows or security screens on the doors to prevent the occupant from escaping the burning home.

LAFD Arson Investigators are determining the cause of this fatal fire and LAPD is examining circumstances leading up to the incident.
