LAFD Prevents Spread of Fire Through Commercial Warehouse
Los Angeles Firefighters aggressive attack prevented a commercial fire from spreading throughout the building.
At 3:27 AM on September 23, 2015, the LAFD responded to a reported Rubbish Fire at 820 S Gladys Ave in Downtown. Firefighters arrived to find a rubbish fire to the rear of a 200’ x 200’, two story, U-shaped commercial warehouse extending into the building.
The Incident Commander upgraded the call to a structure fire and Firefighters worked to gain entry to the locked warehouse through a rolling steel door. They encountered a significant amount of smoke but no fire. Heavy storage created a challenge for Firefighters while making their way to the back of the building where they located and quickly knocked down the fire.
Over 80 firefighters, under the command of Assistant Chief Donald Frazeur, contained this fire in 56 mins and prevented the spread of fire throughout the warehouse.
The origin of the fire was a rubbish fire at the back of the building, possibly from a homeless encampment. The business was closed at the time and there were no reported injuries. Dollar loss TBD.
