Heavy smoke inside the attic of a local business erupted into a greater alarm structure fire which firefighters aggressively extinguished on the morning of December 6, 2018.

At 9:46 AM the men and women of the Los Angeles Fire Department were notified of a structure fire at the 1300 block of North Echo Park Avenue.  Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke inside the attic of a 50’ x 70’ liquor store which rapidly ignited towards the rear of the structure.  Crews worked collectively to extinguish the flames and vertically ventilate the building when a large air conditioning unit had the potential to fall inside, prompting an ‘Emergency Traffic.’

Interior firefighters transitioned into a defensive operation utilizing heavy streams to extinguish the flames.  Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down, the 77 firefighters again transitioned into the offensive mode and fully extinguished the fire in 1 hour 15 minutes.

There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is under active investigation by the Arson/ Counter-Terrorism Section with the total dollar loss still being tabulated.
