Update #SanYsidroRescue *COMPLETE* Confined Space Rescue; 09:35AM; 1600 San Ysidro Dr; internal:/; #BeverlyCrest the rescue has been successfully completed; a 30 year-old M delivery truck driver bringing steel rebar to the residential construction site exited his truck; He apparently stepped on plywood covering one of several deep holes on the property; He fell as many as 50' down the 24" diameter hole, landing feet first on compacted soil; LAFD Urban Search and Rescue specialists worked with LAFD neighborhood firefighters to: secure the site, introduce fresh air into the hole via a confined space ventilation system, assess the man's physical predicament, establish communications (first verbally and later via radio they lowered to him) to keep him from becoming in greater peril; He remained conscious with minor injury and was able to assist LAFD in placing a harness secured to a rope around his body; Firefighters used an aerial ladder truck in a crane-like fashion, and delicately raised him to ground level with the fire truck's winch; The man was brought to ground level at 9:35AM, and is in fair condition, with lacerations to his head and face; He has been taken to an area hospital by LAFD Paramedics for further evaluation; CalIOSHA has been notified and will be handling any investigation; NFD; Brian Humphrey

Update Structure Fire 10/21/2016

Update Structure Fire; 09:56PM; 4057 Sea View Av; internal:/; #MtWashington; Despite a dawn-to-dusk effort today by dozens of firefighters, assisted by a trio of cadaver detection canines that led to the movement-by-hand of tons of smoldering debris, Investigators have yet to discover human remains within the tons of burnt rubble perched precariously on a Sea View Avenue hillside that once comprised a 9,111 square-foot three story home that burned fiercely Thursday night. LAFD will remain at the scene again tonight to protect the neighborhood by stabilizing debris and extinguishing hot spots. Early Saturday, the Fire Department will bring in heavy equipment, including an excavator, to continue the dolorous task of deconstructing the home in the hope of finding the remains of an 84 year-old resident who is strongly believed to be deceased in the rubble. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The men and women of LAFD thank the Mount Washington community for their support, and apologize for any inconvenience this prolonged effort has caused.; Brian Humphrey
